Advancing Scholarly Dialogue on Islamic Banking

Iqra University’s Centre for Excellence in Islamic FinTech (IU CEIF) hosted a distinguished panel discussion, “Islamic Banking: Public Questions, Scholarly and Shariah Review, and the Way Forward,” bringing together leading Shariah scholars to explore key questions and contemporary issues surrounding Islamic banking in Pakistan.

The session examined important areas including the prohibition of riba, deposit and investment structures, risk-sharing, Shariah governance, conventional benchmarks, contractual arrangements, and the broader role of Islamic finance in promoting justice, financial inclusion, and economic welfare.

The discussion emphasized that genuine Shariah compliance extends beyond terminology and requires careful consideration of the underlying contracts, ownership, assets, risks, rights, and obligations, supported by effective Shariah governance and implementation.

Through such platforms, IU CEIF continues to promote informed academic and scholarly dialogue, research, and innovation aimed at contributing to the continued development of Islamic Finance and FinTech.
